For Wonton Wrappers:
- 1 1/2 cups of sliced or chopped cabbage ( you pick which kind you like )
- 1 TBS Scallions (sliced thin )
- A good pinch of fresh grated Ginger
- 1 pound of ground chicken or any other ground meat you would prefer
- 1/2 cup of diced onion
- 1 TBS of minced garlic
- 1 TBS of soy sauce
- 1 TBS of rice vinegar
- 1 TBS of sesame oil
- 1 Tsp sugar
- 1 package of Wonton Wrappers
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- 1-2 cups of Chicken Broth
- 1-2 cups of water
For Dipping Sauce:
- 1/2 cup of soy sauce
- 1/2 cup of rice vinegar
- 2 TBS of minced garlic
- 1 tsp of freshly ground or ground ginger
- 2 -3 TBS of scallions
Saute the cabbage and onions in an oiled pan on medium to high heat, till the onions and cabbage are soft and translucent. Add the scallions, soy sauce, ginger, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, and garlic. Next, take the mixture out of the pan and set aside to cool.
Add the ground chicken to the hot pan and season with salt and pepper to taste. Once the ground meat is cooked, pour the mixture back into the pan. Mix well, take off of the burner, and let the mixture rest.
Next prepare the wonton wrappers. Lay out each wonton wrapper. Add a tablespoon of mixture to each center. Take your index finger and dab it into the chicken broth. Run your finger along the edge of the entire wonton wrapper. Take another wrapper and place it onto of the bottom wrapper with mixture, and pinch the edges together. Once the entire wrapper is sealed, dab your index finger once again in the chicken broth and seal two corners together. Repeat for each wonton wrapper.
Use a steamer to steam the wontons, or use the same pan you had already used. On low heat, pour chicken broth on the bottom of the pan just enough to cover it. Do not add too much or the wontons will become mushy while steaming. Place the wontons in the chicken broth, and pour a little water over the top of each. Be careful not to soak the wontons. Place a lid ontop of the pan, not closing it completely. Let steam 3-5 minutes.
For the dipping sauce, place all ingredients in a pan, heat, and mix.
Once wontons are done, you may place on a plate along with the dipping sauce. You may add any extra sliced scallions on top.
